Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) are licensed professionals who have graduated from the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) educational program.  They have participated in extensive classroom and clinical education, and have taken and passed the National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE) of the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.  PTA licenses must be renewed on a regular basis,  with mandatory continuing education as a requirement for renewal.  PTAs work alongside of  Physical Therapists and under their general direction and supervision. 

Liz Harbeson, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy

​Liz graduated from the University of St. Augustine in 2017 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to that, Liz received her Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University in 2014, where she also played lacrosse for 4 years and found her passion for sports rehabilitation.

In her spare time, Liz loves I love running, hiking, and being out on the water.  Liz says she is very excited to be back in her hometown and have the opportunity to begin her career with Annapolis Family PT!  

Doug Wallop, PT
Practice Owner, Physical Therapist, Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner

Doug received his Physical Therapy degree in 1989 at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia after completing his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. Doug has a special interest in outpatient orthopedics and rehabilitation and he particularly enjoys shoulder rehabilitation.

In his spare time, Doug is an avid sailor and was the Team PT for Team Chessie in the 1997-98 Whitbread Round the World Race.

Tara Hatfield, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy

Tara received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science & Rehabilitative Services from Slippery Rock University.  She continued her graduate studies there earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012.  Tara has a special interest in orthopedics and sports rehabilitation.  She enjoys working with all patient populations and various age groups.  Tara takes pride in motivating non-athletes to continue with exercise once they are done with physical therapy to continue to develop a healthier lifestyle.

In her spare time, you can find Tara spending time with her family, going for a run, or relaxing at the beach.

Jillian Fichman, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified APTA Clinical Instructor

Jillian graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland. She went on to receive a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. As a former competitive swimmer and gymnast, she has a special interest in treating orthopedic injuries and in sports medicine. Jillian is trained in a variety of manual techniques for land and aquatic treatments that she uses in a holistic approach. Jillian is a big proponent of lifelong fitness and enjoys working with patients to further a healthy lifestyle.  Jillian is trained in dry needling and likes to incorporate this into treatment of chronic pain.

When she is not working, Jillian enjoys swimming, running, competing in triathlons and most importantly, spending time with her family.

Phyllis Hayden, PT
Physical Therapist, Biomechanical Specialist, Custom Foot Orthotic Specialist

Phyllis graduated with honors from the University of Maryland in 1985.  She began her career at the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) as a staff therapist.  Following extensive lower extremity biomechanical courses, she began an orthotics program at UMMS in 1986.  In 1989 she established a similar program at HEALTHSOUTH.  Phyllis then joined AFPT in 1995 where she continues to specialize in lower extremity biomechanics with correction using custom foot orthotics. She uses advanced 3D imaging equipment to make the orthotics.  She also works with general orthopedic and sports medicine patients.

In her free time she teaches dog agility classes as well participates in dog agility competitions with her border collie.

Whitney Carlsen, PT
Physical Therapist

Whitney earned her Physical Therapy degree at Stockton State College in 1993.  She joined our team in February of 2017.  She has experience in a variety of settings, including outpatient Orthopedics, home health care, acute care and skilled nursing care.  She has a special interest in osteoporosis management and treatment and postural awareness.   Whitney utilizes a variety of techniques to address soft tissue restrictions as well as joint restrictions to optimize her client’s function.  She is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) certified, FMT Basic and Performance certified and Certified in Motor Learning.

When not working she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and hiking.

Mike Wells, DPT

Mike received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of Maryland in 2005 following completion of his Bachelor of Science degree at University of Maryland College Park in 2001. His clinical skills emphasize functional training and education to promote habitual changes. He focuses on body awareness and improving biomechanics to facilitate movement patterns and decrease pain. Mike utilizes soft tissue and joint mobilizations to optimize movement efficiency. His clinical interests include working with athletes and patients with orthopedic and balance dysfunction.

Ann received her Physical Therapy degree at Thomas Jefferson University in 1989. She has a special interest in pediatrics, aquatic therapy and biomechanical assessment and rehabilitation.
